After installing WordPress, your blog is almost ready, but still, you have to customize default settings. It is very useful and essential for SEO purpose.
Today in our article I am going to share some important steps for customizing Settings for your WordPress blog. As in our previous articles, we shared “How to set up Blog and how to install WordPress on Hostgator,” If you have missed out these articles then you can check it by clicking the link given here.
If you are a beginner, then I will tell you how to delete or customize your default WordPress settings.
First of all, we are going to customize general settings. When you log in your WordPress blog then you see settings on left side. You just click on settings>General
After clicking on general, you will see an image like (as shown below).
Table of Contents
Site Title and Tag Line
The site title is your blog name like bloggingtechblog is my blog name, so I entered my blog name in Site Title.
Tag line shows the perfect line that describes your blog, and it should brief all about the blog, as I have written in my tag line “Blogging Tips & Resources.”
Note – Do not be in a hurry to choose tag line just give your time and think what should be the best line which will match and perfectly suit your blog.
WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL)
It is your blog URL and does not make changes in it.
This Email Address is used for getting any notification related to your blog. It’s actually admin email Address.
Do not enable “anyone can register” option if you are sole writer of your blog. This feature basically allows guest posting for your blog through signup and by creating own author id. Many bloggers who accept guest posts enable this feature. If you are going to enable this feature then be careful because spam registration can be a headache.
Time Zone – Date Format – Time Format
In time Zone section you can select time according to your country like I am from India and our time zone is UTC+5:30.
Date Format and time format – Well I don’t suggest you make changes in date format and time format as I think its look perfect but if you still want to do some change or customize according to your choice then it’s really easy you can select any customization as you like.
You can select your site language according to you and your reader’s comfort. Well, I have selected English ( United States) language because it’s common and most traditional language and easy to understand by many.
So these were in the general settings category. After you customize or make changes in above settings now, you have to click on save changes button and once clicked you are done.

In Writing Settings You don’t have to do so much, When you click on writing settings, scroll down where you see update services. In this, you have to add some good ping sites but do it very carefully. When you add ping site list just check all links that they are working or not after ensuring everything then only add them to the list.
Front Page Displays
In Frontpage Displays you can choose what you want to show on your front page as you can see I wanted to show my latest posts on my front page, so I selected latest posts.
If you want to show any static page on your front page then you can select the second option, once you select the second one, then you can choose which page you want to show on front page.
Blog pages show at most – In this section, you can change numbers according to you.
Syndication feeds show the most recent – You can set a limit the number of posts in WordPress RSS feed like I have selected 10 items.
For each article in a feed, show – In this section, I recommend you to select a summary option because in feed article if you show the only summary then your readers come on your blog to read a full article. It’s good for your blog, and your blog traffic also increases.
Search Engine Visibility – Do not enable this feature because if you enable this feature, then your blog not indexed in the search engine and people will not find your blog on search engines.
Note – You can enable it till your blog is not ready, once you are done all settings, installed all necessary plugins, setup analytics, and webmaster tool accounts and linked to your blog then you can disable this feature.
After all these you have to click on save button, and your settings are saved.
In Permalink Settings you can see various permalink settings, I recommend you to select Custom Structure, and some suggested permalink structures are-
Default Permalink Structure is not SEO friendly, so you have to choose Custom Structure and select any of two which I have suggested you above.
